Augustin Lazo

Augustin Lazo (1898 - 1971) was active/lived in United States, Mexico.  Augustin Lazo is known for Painting.

Augustin Lazo entered the School of Architecture continuing his family tradition, but a year later Alfredo Ramos Martínez invited him to become his student. This led him to take classes at the Santa Anita Outdoor Painting School where he met Julio Castellanos, Gabriel Fernández Ledesma and Rufino Tamayo.

In 1917, he attended the National School of Fine Arts, where he took classes with Saturnino Herrán, Manuel Rodríguez Lozano and Abraham Ángel. Lazo reached maturity as a painter in the 1920s, moving away from the political imagery championed by the muralists. He traveled for the first time to Europe in 1922, where he experienced firsthand the avant-garde in France and Italy.

Upon his return to Mexico, Lazo was linked to the Group without a group to which the writers Xavier Villaurrutia, Salvador Novo and Jorge Cuesta, among others, belonged.
